PS: for the DLC to work on PC, it seems you need to potentially clear your Steam download cache. I hope that helps (haven't played in some time too after making a review, but the devs improved the game a lot with the latest patches too, so nice to see they add more to it) ![]() The ability to fight for your own faction is definitely a big (and needed) addition for that kind of playstyle. The game always supported your ships setting a pirate flag/Jolly Roger (basically hiding its identity) and attacking ships of the other factions, but it was very hard to make this you main playstyle (you had not many options here) and I would assume it still is very hard with this DLC (haven't played it yet), but maybe you now have more options. With this paid DLC you can now also become independent and maybe play more of a pirate style game. At release this was not possible in Port Royale 4 and you had to chose a faction you join (Spain, England, Netherlands, France). Now the previous games allowed you found your own faction. The game uses turn based combat instead of real time as in the games before, but imo the combat is more fun compared to previous iterations (but maybe that is just me). Here the game has a bit more complexity (but also some problems, because the game sacrifices a few things to streamline certain aspects of the game hard to explain). you have more focus price development, and trying to produce goods at a low price, etc. In PR4 you have some production and city building aspects too, but they are not that complex in most areas, but e.g. I personally enjoyed that and found the game quite relaxing, even though games like Anno 1800 are better in most aspects (even though Anno is more about production and building cities, than trading imo). You must consider that this game is primarily a trading management game, not a pirate sim.
